Here in Michigan, we are well aware of the importance of being protected from the elements throughout the long winter months. A recent blast of arctic air had windchills dipping down to -15 degrees. The yurts we build have to be able to handle even the toughest onslaughts of cold weather.

The key to such an effective barrier against cold temperatures is our insulation system. We use aluminum coated reflective insulation that reflects 97% of heat, making it the most effective insulating barrier available on the market.  It would take more than 10” of conventional insulation to provide the same effect that less than one inch of reflective insulation creates!

When looking for an insulating barrier for astronauts during spacewalks, NASA turned to a relatively new, lightweight product on the market – reflective insulation. This product kept the astronauts’ body temperature within the suit, while protecting them from drastic temperature fluctuations and radiant heat from the sun. This same system is still in use in all spacesuits and spacecraft today.
