What is a Yurt?
I get asked all the time "What is a Yurt, and why would you want one?" Honestly it is one of those things where my answer is "You need to come check out one of our Yurts and see for yourself." In case you didn't catch us at one of Michigan's Folk Music Festivals this year or can't make it out to our shop in Grass Lake to check one out here is a little run down of what we are working on.
The official definition of a yurt by Webster is as follow:
Definition of yurt
A Yurt is a traditional structure of the Nomadic Mongolians stretching back thousands of years in use. The traditional covering would be different animal skins dried and stretched around a lattice work of branches to create a round home effect that was lightweight, portable and efficient. Once you walk into your first Yurt you will recognize the innate genius of the structure and why it has been handed down generation after generation as a beautiful home.
Today we have update the materials and the design with our own artistic and engineering inputs to accommodate its modern use which is mainly as a stationary structure, and one that can withstand all different climates and conditions.
